Back around 2008-2012 or so (and possibly beyond), there was this MAJOR movement on Youtube called “you don’t need to read your bible at all, you ONLY need to have a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ”. And one of the founding fathers of this movement was a guy on Youtube [username: finalcall07] who had the appearance of an Old Testament prophet and really seemed to know what he was talking about in his videos.
He had some videos that speak truth in them and that encouraged people to come to Jesus Christ. And while that fact, in and of itself is good, he’d oftentimes have videos that completely went against the Word of God in the bible. He said in some of his videos that he has “no sin”, that “bible knowledge/bible reading/bible study is not necessary”, that the bible is “fallible” and not God-inspired, that Satan’s favorite is “bible study”, that we “don’t need to worry about or watch for the signs of the 2nd advent of Jesus Christ”, that God is “not found in the bible”, etc.
The “Jesus” he followed at that point in time was NOT the Jesus Christ of the bible. It was a different “Jesus”, altogether. And it took me awhile to see that. You see, I myself used to subscribe to him on Youtube. That is, until someone else pointed out his errors to me and showed me that he often teaches contrary to the bible [even though he also has many teachings that DO go with the bible, which in turn, produces mass confusion].
Now, don’t me wrong, I am not personally “judging” that guy (that will be left up to Jesus Christ himself on the Day of Judgment). I am however, warning others not to follow him or any OTHER individual for that matter (including local church pastors, Christian friends/family members, televangelists, etc.), without first personally lining up and verifying EVERY single thing they say with the written Word of God in the bible; EVERY S I N G L E THING. [For example, did you know that the fires of hell are not eternal but only a temporarily “holding cell”? Read Revelation 20:14!]
But anyways, back to the story. So I was subscribed to him over a long period of time and started listening to his Youtube teachings instead of reading the bible for myself. I figured that I was ok since this guy “really seemed to know what he was talking about”. I thought to myself “well, here’s what appears to be a true man of God, I’ll just listen to HIS teachings about the bible so I won’t have to read the bible”.
And look what happened! I myself was deceived and then started to, in turn, have many “errors” in my OWN teachings on Youtube and as a result, unintentionally deceived many of my OWN subscribers in the process…..for they’d write things underneath my videos that said “great video”, “nice video” without even noticing the errors I had made (or if they HAD noticed the errors, they just didn’t say anything).
[Update Dec 2013: I haven’t seen any of his youtube videos for a really long time and have no idea if he STILL preaches those same false messages he did back around 2008-2010 or so (and possibly beyond) or not on Youtube but I pray with all my heart that he and his followers will repent of those teachings before it is too late and their souls are lost for eternity. It gives me no pleasure to write such posts and I’m only using that as an example of a much bigger picture of the problem of false teachings floating around on Youtube. And yes, the bible DOES say that we are to make peace with our enemies but it never says anything about “silently tolerating” false teachings for we are to ALWAYS & FOREVER keep the “lost sheep” in mind!]
Not to mention that I was ALSO deceived by simply assuming that ALL Jesus movies were based DIRECTLY on the bible and never strayed from the words/events of the bible. Boy, was *I* wrong! [For example, in the bible, it says that Jesus called out the first FOUR of his 12 disciples (two by two) while walking along the sea of Galilee and in the movie “Jesus: The Greatest Story Ever Told” [starring Jeremy Sisto as Jesus], it has the first 2 disciples coming to Jesus, instead, etc.!
[Not to mention that on the DVD movie cover and halfway through the film, it shows off Jeremy Sisto’s chest – as if to try to advertise Jesus having “sex appeal” & also contains a “letter from the Pope” in the extra features but that’ll be another post, altogether!] Now, I know some may argue “rights of the movie makers to have a little leeway” but does Jesus Christ himself EVER “ok” a little leeway when it comes to his words in the bible? NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Which brings me to another point. When you see someone’s “error” (be it on a blog, Youtube, whatever), POINT IT OUT TO THAT PERSON IMMEDIATELY using patience, love and the written Word of God in the bible. And if you see, read or hear ANY false teachings on WordPress/Facebook/Youtube/etc, the bible says that we are to rebuke them (first privately: 2-3 times…….then, PUBLICALLY if they haven’t yet repented!) Though we are to do so prayerfully & with the love & guidance of the Holy Spirit. Remember that even just ONE false teaching has the power to lead MANY astray! So even ONE false teaching is one too many & must be dealt with IMMEDIATELY!
Jesus & the apostles NEVER dealt with “false teaching” in a private manner but only in a public manner! Remember that we are always & forever to have the “lost sheep” in mind as we rebuke false teachings! [Also please realize that lovingly yet FIRMLY publicly correcting false teaching is NOT the same as judging a person UNLESS you say it in a way like: “that’s a false teaching & you’re an idiot for believing/teaching it!” Many want to say that to CORRECT a false teaching is to judge a person but that’s FALSE! Like I said, correcting a false teaching only “becomes” judging someone if we correct the false teaching while insulting the person teaching/believing it. Think about it, folks!
But anyways, after a couple people pointed out some of my own “errors” to me, I IMMEDIATELY deleted all of my videos, REPENTED to the Lord and my subscribers and vowed & promised that from now on, I’d be reading the Word of God in the bible as often as I could and meditating upon it so that I’d never be deceived (or unintentionally deceive others) ever again! That’s the whole point I’m trying to make. If/when you don’t read the bible for yourself, YOU *WILL* BE DECEIVED, MARK MY WORDS!
Here’s what happens when you do NOT read the written Word of God in the bible for yourself:
1. You don’t truly know what the written word of God in the bible says or doesn’t say. Which in turn, opens you up for deception by others [especially pastors, Youtube preachers and televangelists) who “appear” to know the written Word of God in the bible. [Which, in turn, will make you fall victim to the doctrines of men, instead of the true doctrines of God/Jesus Christ Almighty!]
2. People will spiritually “walk all over you” and try to AGGRESSIVELY get you to bend to “their” way of thinking about the bible. [And because of your true lack of knowledge about the bible, such people will *succeed* in deceiving you, right and left!]
3. You will become lukewarm and lazy and won’t have the necessary spiritual armour to GROW in your faith in Jesus Christ.
4. You will not truly know what Jesus Christ expects or doesn’t expect of you.
5. You will unintentionally deceive yourself & others & become arrogant & lazy.
6. You will become part of the group of people that Jesus Christ says to someday “depart from me, ye workers of iniquity! I never knew you!”
7. Your prayer life will fall to the wayside and you’ll fall back into sin, just like that.
8. You will have no spiritual wisdom & become full of fear, having no true faith.
9. You will falsely believe that you are saved. [Note: Reading the bible in & of itself isn’t what saves you. It’s a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ. But without knowledge of the bible, your spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ will fall by the wayside & become non-existent].
And then there’s the fact that there’s SO many different bible translations and denominations out there. “What is the deal?” you might ask. Well, oddly enough, the KJV (original King James Version) comes from one text while ALL OTHER bible versions come from another. The new versions “claim” to be translated for “better readability” but in all actuality, they change hundreds upon thousands of words (even the total “context” of many words) and even omit some words altogether. Which really makes me wonder. Revelation 22:18-19 is VERY CLEAR that we are not to add or subtract words from the bible. There are Old Testament passages that assert to that fact, as well. Not to mention the 1st century Christians copied every letter of the bible VERY, VERY CAREFULLY, so as to try to be sure that nothing was omitted or changed. But again, don’t just take MY word for it. Go to the website for yourself.
As for the reasons of many denominations? Simple. The Devil wanted people to STRAY away from the true Words of God in the bible and the ONLY way he could think of to do that was to get man to stray from the true written Word of God in the bible by clinging to TRADITIONS and teachings of man, instead of the teachings of God in the bible. Satan used the bible to destroy and divide people. That’s why there’s over 2,000 denominations today. But even the non-denominational churches aren’t exempt from false teachings. They only cling to the doctrines in the bible that THEY want to cling to, most times. In many ways, they are no different than denominational churches. But when will it all END? It will end when people crack open their bibles and START READING THEM, FRONT TO BACK. That’s when.
In closing, I would like to say that if ANYONE tries to come at you and tell you that the 10 commandments no longer apply and that Jesus Christ IS the Sabbath, RUN! FLEE from such a person and do NOT look back! Next to the damnable hearsay that “bible knowledge is not necessary”, this is one of THE MOST dangerous teachings now flying around on Youtube. This false teaching in question is like a venomous snake. Once it sinks its teeth into the soul of a person who’s turned their ears from the true word of God in the bible, it poisons their soul. And if they don’t repent & come back to Jesus Christ and his true gospel before it’s too late, they will be lost for eternity! Meaning, they will burn in the “fire that never quenches” forever & ever. Now, before you write off hell as “mythical”, check out Mary K. Baxter’s testimony of hell.

“What if I rebuke someone and they refuse my correction?” you may ask. Well, let me start off by asking you this. Have you spoken the truth of them with love, patience, humbleness & conviction? Have you backed up what you said with the written Word of God in the bible to lovingly show where they are in error? Have you prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ for the personal fate of their soul? If you answered yes to all of these questions and tried to lovingly rebuke the person 2-3 times and they still don’t listen by the 3rd time, then you will have to FLEE from such a person and their teachings and never look back….
That’s not to say that it’s not still possible for the Lord to still save the soul of the person at a future date. But at the current moment in time, if you’ve humbly, patiently and prayerfully tried to rebuke them 3 times already and they don’t listen after the 3rd time, they are headed on the path to darkness and if you defend them or keep on arguing with them, you will be headed on a path to darkness, too. For Jesus told us to lovingly rebuke someone that’s teaching false doctrine but Jesus never said that we are to “continually” argue & bicker with someone. [Trust me, sometimes the best way to get someone to see their error is to lovingly rebuke them 3 times and then back away & let the Holy Spirit take over the rest].
