As a Christian, I know FIRSTHAND what it’s like to feel like nothing we ever say or do will be “good enough” for God/Jesus Christ. And it’s an OVERWHELMING feeling, isn’t it? Upon reading the bible and “spiritually hearing” Jesus’s words in which he condemned/chastised the people [namely, the Pharisees and Sadducees and their “adherents”] whom “thought” they were living a righteous life, only to later find out that they were, in fact, living the FURTHEST thing from it (in Jesus’s eyes) is a VERY hard pill for most of us to swallow.

We then usually start to think amongst themselves: “well, if so and so was so severely chastised by Jesus in the bible, how is there hope for ANY of us then, especially ME?” But remember this: Jesus Christ died for our sins! He KNOWS that none of us are perfect and that we are going to have our “faults” and our “weaknesses”.

Heck, even his own 12 DISCIPLES, of all people, as well as many of the Pharisees and even some of the Old Testament prophets themselves were full of “faults” and “sins”. And that makes perfect sense in the light of Romans 3:23 which states: “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”.

Translation? NOBODY’S PERFECT and we’re ALL going to fall short from time to time, in our spiritual walk with Jesus. So just remember that. You’re not alone in this spiritual battle! Many Christians out there like you are going through the same exact thing! So remember that! You’re not the only one!

But exactly what can one DO when one feels OVERWHELMED by feelings of shame, guilt, fear and lack of faith? Well, first of all, please recognize that Jesus oftentimes uses this type of experience to “humble us”, to get us to repent of our sins, and to make us less self-righteous. Cause otherwise, we become like the Whore of Babylon who in Revelation 18:7 says in her heart:

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow”.

Have you ever met one of those Christians that are “arrogantly self-assured” that they’re in right standing with God? There’s a difference between FAITH and ARROGANT-SELF-ASSURANCE:

FAITH is when we simply KNOW that we’re living right by God/Jesus Christ and that Jesus Christ WILL return for us someday (his “faithful servants”) and that Jesus Christ CAN and WILL help us overcome ANY and ALL obstacles in our lives, trusting HIM and HIM ALONE for our salvation! But ARROGANT SELF-ASSURANCE is the proclamation that the Lord Jesus will spare us from his wrath and judgement someday because hey, we go to church every Sunday, are an outstanding member of the community, etc. That’s what I mean when I say there’s a DIFFERENCE between the two: faith and arrogant self-assurance.

Nevertheless, when we get to the point in life where we just feel OVERWHELMED by life, and OVERWHELMED with the spiritual responsibilities OF our lives, and dealing with the feelings of doubt and/or self-doubt, fear, shame, guilt, and like nothing we ever do is “good enough” for the Lord, that’s when we’re in the “spiritual danger zone” or “in the red”, as I call it.

Pray to the Lord Jesus about it.

Say the following prayer:

“Lord, I’m overcome with feelings of fear, guilt, shame, lack of faith [or whatever it is you might be struggling with right now] and I need you to please help me overcome. Please be my rock, my shield, and my strength. Please help me overcome all the things I’m struggling with right now and help draw me closer to you. Please use the circumstances in my life to strengthen and renew my faith in you. Please teach me how to spiritually endure and also how to teach others how to spiritually endure. Please forgive me for all my sins and help me to live a more righteous life that’s fully dedicated to YOU, Lord! In Jesus’s name, Amen”.

And remember that Satan and his demons stand as THE ACCUSER(S) of mankind. But Jesus Christ gives an eternal pardon from condemnation of sin to ALL those whom put their faith, trust, and love in HIM and him alone! When we are forgiven of our sins, that’s it, we are forgiven of them and they are remembered no more! So please remember that the next time you start beating yourself up over wrongs or “perceived wrongs” that you MAY’VE done or not done in the eyes of God. Whenever Satan tries to drag you down over your past, point to the book of Revelation and remind him of his future!

Also please remember that WHEN you feel overpowered/overwhelmed by feelings of fear, guilt, shame and also feel like nothing you ever do for the Lord Jesus is “good enough”, you are being SPIRITUALLY PERSECUTED by Satan and his demons and that they WANT you to feel helpless and as though you are without hope, they WANT you to sin, they WANT you to feel sorry for yourself all the time, they WANT you to develop a lack of faith, they WANT you to neglect your spiritual relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and to start catering to your OWN life’s needs, instead of God/Jesus’s spiritual needs.

However, when you ARE overcome with feelings of fear, guilt and shame, that’s usually a sign that you need to REPENT of something in your life. Remember that the Lord sometimes USES our feelings of fear, guilt and shame to draw us back closer TO him and to drive us to REPENT of our sins!

But alas, if you’ve already repented of all your sins and are in “good standing” with the Lord and are STILL overcome with feelings of guilt and shame of what you’ve done in the past or most recently, please remember that you’re already forgiven of those sins and Satan’s just TRYING to get you to doubt your being forgiven of those sins so he can further drag you down and KEEP YOU THERE! But don’t let him win! Remember the bible passage which states: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” [New Testament: Romans 10:13, Acts 2:21…Old Testament: Joel 2:32].

“I pray to the Lord Jesus that if you’re a poor, lost soul that’s OVERCOME with feelings of fear, shame and guilt, that Jesus Christ will deliver you and free you from such “bondage”, that your faith will be renewed & strengthened, that you will no longer spiritually faint or get weary for any reason (specifically, spiritual persecution, etc.) and that the Lord Jesus Christ will give you the necessary spiritual armour to endure and run the rest of the race of *spiritual endurance* and *spiritual long-suffering*, until he comes. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you & keep you for eternity. Amen”.
